Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri

  • Altitude: 6,455 ft (1,920 m)
  • Distance: 190 km
  • Time: 8-9 hrs (Drive)

The first day, we depart early in the morning from Dehradun and travel the short 35 kilometres to the well-known hill station of Mussoorie. There are hundreds of sites to explore at this compact yet vibrant hill station. The most popular spots to explore in Mussoorie include Gun Hill, LakeMist, Mussoorie Lake, Kempty Falls, Bhatta Falls, Jharipani Falls, Mossy Falls, Happy Valley, Nag Devta Temple, Jawalaji Temple, Sr. George Everest House, and Benog Wildlife Sanctuary. The valley’s most popular retail area, Mall Road, is also the tourist destination with the most crowds.

Three large streams cross the route; the Tonnes and Yamuna are the two main rivers that join together close to Naugaon and follow us all the way to Purola, the last town with a market and cellular service. Trekkers are able to purchase everything they missed when packing. We will pause here to have lunch in the local cuisine. Additionally, it serves as the last station for ATMs and connection. We arrive in Sankri, a little community with 250 houses, a few Dhabas, and a few stores, after travelling somewhat more than 54 miles. Being the main base camp for several treks, including the Kedarkantha Peak, Bali Pass, Borasu Pass, and Har Ki Doon Trek, it is typically a hive of activity during the peak season. Even though it is primarily covered in a heavy layer of snow throughout the winter, the rainy season brings out the most beautiful aspects of mother nature. During the monsoon, the lush fields, meadows, apple and buransh trees, rhododendron, and orchids all contribute to the allure of the countryside. This town is traversed gently by the Supin River, and there is an old temple here that is completely constructed of wood—a portion of the historic building that has never been seen before. The Har Ki Dun Trek’s base camp is Sankri. The path winds through forests filled with bamboo, chestnut, cedar, wild rose, and iris trees. Taluka is renowned for its bird species in addition to its beautiful greenery.

Day 2: Sankri to Gangad via Taluka

  • Altitude: 8,855 ft (2,700 m)
  • Time: 7-9 hrs trek

We set off for Taluka after breakfast, following the paths through the forest. The path winds through forests filled with bamboo, chestnut, cedar, wild rose, and iris trees. Taluka is renowned for its bird species in addition to its beautiful greenery. The walk is exciting since it starts with a descent and then continues along the Rupin River through lush woodland and flora. Afterwards, the journey ascends to the settlement of Gangar via the enthralling woodlands of willow, chestnut, and walnut. We set up tent close to the settlement and take the day off. There will be campsites available for overnight relaxation. It’s an incredible experience to be so close to nature, with breath-taking vistas of rivers, peaks, glaciers, and galaxies.

Day 3: Gangad to Kalkatidhar

  • Altitude: 10,826 ft (3,300 m)
  • Time: 5-7hrs trek

Following breakfast, we go on a walk into the dense, verdant forest of Govind National Park. The park offers views of several animal species, including snow leopards, Himalayan bears, musk deer, monal, and many more. It is located at the junction of the Rupin and Supin Rivers. The route then ascends in the direction of the ridged Kalkatti Dhar, the location of the day’s campsite.

Day 4: Day 4: Kalkatidhar to Har ki Dun (3,510 m) & Marinda Tal (3,794 m)- Back to Kalkatidhar

The highlight of the hiking excursion is our journey to the Har Ki Dun valley, which we begin after breakfast. The path across the Har Ki Dun valley combines treks with a series of steep hills. With captivating views of the surrounding alpine terrain, it is located in the foothills of Swargarohini Peak. We then make our way progressively to the Marinda Tal and the verdant fields that surround it. Following our free time spent at Marinda Tal, we travel back to Kalkatidhar to spend the night in the campgrounds.

Day 5: Kalkatidhar to Gangad

  • Altitude: 8,855 ft (2,700 m)
  • Time: 5-7 hrs trek

After breakfast, we make our way through the moderately exposed portion of the hike down towards Gangad. This segment of the journey provides some downtime to interact with the local village families and learn about their Garhwali customs.

Day 6: Gangad to Sankri

  • Altitude: 6,455 ft (1,920 m)
  • Time: 6-7 h trek + 1 h drive

Trekkers spend the last day of their journey exploring the Sankri. Since the majority of the walk is downhill, it will start as soon as the River Supin joins us on our journey to Taluka. Upon arriving in Taluka, we will proceed by car to Sankri, our overnight destination.

Day 7: Sankri to Dehradun – 8 h drive

  • Time: 8 hrs.

After breakfast, we leave via road for Dehradun.

How to prepare yourself for Bali Pass Trek

The Bali Pass walk is not a very difficult walk, but in order to complete the challenging terrain of this unique adventure, you must mentally and physically prepare. The elevation will rise quickly—in only four days—from 5100 feet to a maximum of 16,207 feet, and you will need to go about 9 to 10 km. Prepare yourself appropriately to make the entire experience enjoyable, stress-free, and less demanding.

Cardiovascular stamina:

To run about 8–10 km in an hour, you must build up your stamina. It takes time for stamina to increase. At least one month before the walk begins, you must begin exercising. Running can help you maintain your energy for the longer routes, but sprinting is the ideal option to increase your stamina. Additionally, jogging is the fundamental exercise you should start with if you’re just beginning to keep a fitness regimen. To prevent boredom and increase your body’s adaptability, you may incorporate swimming and cycling into your regimen.

Strength:

Training your body and mind to deal with the uneven and erratic terrain of mountain trails is another aspect of physical growth. These deviations require you to walk with your rucksack on your shoulders, which might lead to aches and pains in your muscles. The best way to avoid it is to consistently work out and strengthen your legs. Squats may help build the muscles in your lower legs and back, so start completing 2-3 sets of 8–10 repetitions on a daily basis. Another thing you can do to include strength training into your regular routine is to go upstairs and downstairs on foot.

Flexibility:

The extra topping on your pizza when it comes to your body-training plan is flexibility. In addition to relieving muscular tension, it facilitates easy body opening, allowing you to move quickly and navigate even the most difficult terrain. Daily muscular stretching can help to promote flexibility. You’ll be able to accept this Bali Pass Trek diversion by losing those excess inches off your physique.
